“In this short work, I will argue that the proper way to love things and people is determined by the natures of those things and people and the God who made them. Man has no right to determine the measure of love he ought to give to anything. Rather, he must love in accordance with the measure God demands. Our love must be ordered properly. We ought to love great things with great love and small things with meager love. This principle has ramifications for everyday life, family life, political life, worship, culture, the arts, immigration, and much more. If we can grasp the ordo amoris, we will have taken hold of a powerful weapon in our resistance to the spirit of the age—a spirit that seeks to drag us away from reality and press us into the delusions of the fool who says in his heart that there is no God (Ps. 14:1).”

Description

What and who should we love? How much should we love? Do we have a moral obligation to love some things more than others? Should we love some people more than others?

These questions are vitally important, not just for the Christian to answer, but for every person made in God’s image. In our day, we are told that who we love, how much we love, and what we love is completely up to our personal preferences. But this way of thinking and of loving is damaging to the human soul and leads to untold manner of misery and confusion. Rather, God determines what we are to love, who we are to love, and the measure of love we are to give to each creature He has made. Only when we realize this, and properly order our love, the way God intended, can we be happy, joyful, and virtuous.

This is a thoughtful and accessible resource for readers seeking to understand how God shapes the heart, the mind, and the loves of His people.
