In Joey Tomlinson’s Those Things Most Surely Believed, readers will find an accessible but theologically robust companion to the Second London Confession of Faith. It faithfully blends bite-sized pastoral reflections with the timeless truths of biblical doctrine to stir both head and heart toward deeper adoration of the Triune God. With its devotional format and practical application of doctrines ranging from divine simplicity and predestination to church discipline and the ordinances, this book serves as an ideal experiential introduction to the faith once and for all delivered to the saints. If you are seeking to understand historic Baptist doctrine and to grow in devotion to Christ, this volume will faithfully equip you to confess and live out “those things most surely believed.” I highly recommend it.

The Reformed confessions were written partly to serve as tools for instructing the church in the truth of Scripture. Unfortunately, for many Christians today these confessions are difficult to digest due to their length, their historical distance from us, and some of the unfamiliar theological grammar and concepts that they contain. This is true for many Baptists with regard to the Second London Confession of Faith. In Those Things Most Surely Believed, Pastor Joey Tomlinson has done a great service to Baptists by making the Second London Confession of Faith accessible, breaking it down into digestible chunks, explaining its theological grammar and concepts, and decreasing the distance between us and our forefathers in the faith. Reading this book devotionally will not only help one to grow in understanding but also to grow in love for the Lord and for His Word.

In an age marked by theological confusion and shallow discipleship, this work stands as a needed reminder that historic confessional Christianity is not merely to be studied, but believed, loved, and lived. I gladly commend Those Things Most Surely Believed to anyone who desires to grow in their devotion in the faith once delivered to the saints.

Things Most Surely Believed is a faithful, pastorally rich, and helpful tool to aid believers in considering the teaching of the Word of God and to help Reformed Baptists in meditating devotionally on the richness of their historic confession. Tomlinson is at his best here and has produced a helpful tool for the church. I plan to recommend this to people in my own congregation and believe it will be a useful resource for believers. I know Joey personally. I have seen his pastoral work, heart for God’s people, and care and labor for Christ’s church. This resource was forged in the trenches of the ministry seeking to engage confessional theology. This practical and devotional work will fill a gap in the growing body of confessional literature among Reformed Baptists.

Those Things Most Surely Believed points readers to the rich doctrinal heritage of the Christian faith as summarized in the Second London Confession. Resources like this serve the church by helping believers think clearly about truth, speak with theological precision, and grow in their understanding of Scripture. I am grateful to see continued efforts to make historic confessions accessible to the church today.
